At StudyPros, we look for tutors who are serious about making a change in the lives of their students. They realize it’s not just about learning the material, but about helping your child to learn how to learn: part of the job is helping with organizational and study skills, preparing for tests, and discussing approaches to the material. Our tutors are confident, they follow today’s curriculum and they specialize in establishing good working relationships with thier students.

Phone interview
When we first speak with potential tutors, we explain how StudyPros works and the high standards that are expected of them. We ask questions designed to determine their level of committment, whether they plan to stay on all school year, and whether their prime interest is in working one-on-one with their students to help them achieve their personal best. We want to be sure they area as committed to the students as we are.

Detailed record keeping
We gather detailed information about each tutor, including their personal data, qualifications, and achievements. We assess their stated experience, education level, and subject areas. If all seems in order, the next step is a personal interview.

Personal interview
At the interview, we assess appearance, comportment and demeanor. We get an idea of their personality, which is crucial to the matchmaking process. We also collect proof of degree status, letters of recommendation, and references.

References and background check
We then contact each reference and ask for:
• a forthright evaluation of their abilities
• desire to teach
• enthusiasm for the job
• timeliness
• and communication skills.

We ask for three references, and contact all references given to us. We also perform a criminal and civil background check.

Signed agreement
When we are satisfied that we have found the right tutor to add to our roster, we sign an agreement with the tutor, spelling out all of our mutual responsibilities and the tutor’s responsibilities toward the student and client. We also provide the tutor with our operations manual to familiarize them with our procedures. When our tutors arrive at your house, they are ready to teach.
